K-pop girl group fromis_9 set hearts afire with last year’s “Love Bomb,” and they returned with a “Fun!” summer bop on Tuesday (June 4).
“Fun!” is a festive electro-pop track full of energy. Dominated by a boisterous chorus as it flits between a variety of sonic moments, the act’s latest single jumps around, as tonal shifts and seemingly disjointed elements work their way seemlessly into one another, creating a vibrant soundscape over which the nine members each show off their distinct vocal styles.
The song was put out through a color-popping music video that sees the nonet mimicking commercials, beginning with the orange hues of a Fanta promo video and running through a wide array of products, including Pocari Sweat, L’oreal Paris, Adidas, Cup O’ Noodle and more.
With witty lyrics, including a shout-out to Ariana Grande — “In my imagination, I’m Ariana Grande/ But someone might say, ‘What’s wrong with her?’” sings Nagyung, rhyming “Grande” to the Korean word “???” meaning “like that” — fromis_9’s latest definitely lives up to its name and gives the listener a “Fun!” time.
“Fun!” fronts fromis_9’s Fun Factory single album, also released Tuesday. Along with the titular track, it features the retro synth-pop tune “Love Rumpumpum” and the sweet pop ballad “Fly High,” which was co-written by members Hayoung and Jiwon.
fromis_9 head Stateside next month, when they’ll appear at KCON New York.
