Twenty-five years ago this weekend, one of the more lasting country albums of the 1980s was certified Gold. “Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc, Etc.” by Dwight Yoakam was — along with Randy Travis’s “Storms of Life” — one of the biggest reasons for country’s return to traditional sounds. Dwight made songs by Lefty Frizzell, Buck Owens, and Hank Locklin cool all over again. In fact, his very first hit single — from the aforementioned album — was a cover of a Johnny Horton track.
