French singer Bertrand Cantat, frontman of rock band Noir Desir, has been named as a suspect following an injury to his partner, actress Marie Trintignant, while she was filming in Vilnius, Latvia. Cantat was interrogated by Latvian police today (July 29), according to reports.
Cantat, 36, is alleged to have assaulted Trintignant, 41, during an argument Saturday night while he was under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs. During the dispute, Trintignant reportedly fell to the ground and hit her head, resulting in a brain hemorrhage that required two hours of surgery Sunday at a hospital in Vilnius. She was still in a coma at deadline.
Cantat subsequently checked into a Vilnius hospital for toxicology tests.
Noir Desir, France’s leading rock band, has been signed to Universal label Barclay since 1987.
