Yesterday (Sept 21), the in-demand singer and Odd Future member Frank Ocean stopped by Hot 97 to chat with Angie Martinez. In his first major solo radio interview, Frank Ocean talked about working with The Throne, consisting of Jay-Z and Kanye West, meeting Beyoncé and Tyler, the Creator‘s famous Twitter beefs.
Ocean, who recorded standout features on “Watch the Throne” tracks, “No Church in the Wild” and “Made in America,” was initially nervous meeting Jay-Z.

“[In]the initial walk in… he wasn’t saying anything and I was nervous, but as soon as we started talking, he’s super cool,” Ocean told Hot 97. “I think he was trying to make me nervous, make me sweat. It seemed a little intentional, but it was all good. We were laughing within minutes.”
Ocean said walking into the “Watch the Throne” session was like walking into a “heavy room,” as Jay, Ye’, Bey’ and others were there. When Martinez asked if he was “checking Beyoncé out,” he replied, “I said hello and greeted her as I greeted everyone else.”

However, any nerves were quickly dismissed as Ocean began recording. “That’s my element. When I’m in the studio space, I’m a lot more at ease,” he said.
Although he is making a name for himself through collaborations, penmanship (Beyoncé’s “I Miss You,” Bridget Kelly’s “Thinking About You”) and his solo project “Nostalgia, Ultra,” Frank remains a dedicated member of Odd Future. However, Frank Ocean doesn’t always co-sign the remarks that Tyler, the Creator is known for when disputing with artists, such as with Chris Brown.
“I definitely won’t go on the record and say that I latch on to every beef or confrontation or scuffle that Tyler gets into,” Ocean told Martinez. “Maybe in the street, but in the Matrix, or the Internet, I can’t keep up with that.”
Ocean plans to perform apart from the group in the near future. While he will “definitely” attend Jay-Z and Kanye’s “Watch the Throne” tour, he didn’t say if he’d hit the stage. “It’s not up to me, but I would love to.”
