Friends and admirers of Fountains of Wayne co-founder Adam Schlesinger, 52, posted their well-wishes Tuesday (March 31) after it was revealed that the prolific songwriter best known for the hit “Stacey’s Mom” and his contribution to TV and film (That Thing You Do!, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) has been hospitalized with COVID-19.
Schlesinger’s longtime attorney told Billboard that after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, the singer/songwriter has been hospitalized and is on a ventilator for over a week as his condition improves. Among those sending positive vibes is Ford v Ferrari actor Jon Bernthal, who wrote, “This is my big cousin Adam. As a little boy I would be mesmerized by his talent. He showed me how cool it was to be an artist. We love you Cuz. Stay strong.”
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend creator and star Rachel Bloom asked followers to “keep Adam in your thoughts and prayers. It’s been an extremely scary week” and I Love You, Now Die director Erin Lee Carr said she was “thinking about your music, your words, your family but most of all you.” Barenaked Ladies’ Ed Robertson called Schlesinger a “huge inspiration to me” and paid him musical tribute, while Triumph the Insult Comic Dog reposted a song Schlesinger contributed to the Colbert Christmas special.

I know prayers alone aren't always the answer but right now I'm praying for my kind, brilliant friend Adam Schlesinger. Please listen to this beautiful song and maybe say a prayer for him too. – RS @StephenAtHome @ElvisCostello @davidjaverbaumhttps://t.co/7fnTHxuYR0
