Surprise! There’s a DJ out there who’s making more money than Jay Z, according to Forbes.
Harris played 125 gigs over Forbes’ scoring period, including performances at Coachella and in Las Vegas, for his multi-year deal at Hakkasan, America’s biggest nightclub.
Still, Harris came off astoundingly modest in speaking with Forbes: “The rise of dance music has been astronomical in the last three years… I happened to be in the right place at the right time.”
Beyond Harris, it’s been a bountiful moneymaking year for DJs. The top 10 earners on the list combined for $268 million this year, 11 percent more than last year’s $241 million total. Harris also topped the 2013 power list, with $46 million.
And one powerhouse EDM group found greater monetary success after going solo. According to Forbes, the ex-members of Swedish House Mafia are now earning more solo than they did together. Steve Angello alone pulled in $12 million, placing 12th on the 2014 list.
