“I really believe that the environment in which you write record an album, it influences the musical result,” Dave Grohl narrates in the trailer. That idea influenced him to hit the road for his band’s eighth studio album, finding, “You can tie all these people and places together with these sonic highways. … This is a musical map of America.”
The three-and-a-half minute clip shows the band in New Orleans, Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles and other cites, talking music with the hometown heroes including Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Slash, Macklemore, Fugazi’s Ian MacKaye, Steve Albini, Cheap Trick’s Rick Nielsen, Clive Davis, LL Cool J., Pharrell and others. Also in there are non-musicians President Barack Obama and Rolling Stone writer David Fricke.
