Last Song: “Everlong”
“It’s gonna be a long night!” warned Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl at a Rock the Vote concert at the Fillmore in Charlotte, NC on Wednesday. For the 1,000 lucky people in the audience, he was right.
Channeling their inner Bruce Springsteen, who logged a 4-hour show in Finland this summer, Foo Fighters played a set of 35 songs spanning their entire career, plus covers, on the eve of tonight’s Democratic National Convention performance, when they’ll share the stage with Mary J. Blige among others.
“This is the biggest place we’ve played in quite a while. We were gonna play the stadium but …” Grohl joked, referencing Bank of America stadium, where Barack Obama was scheduled to deliver his DNC speech Thursday night (it has since been moved to Time Warner Cable Arena due to weather).
“The Pretender” |
The concert, which ran about three and a half hours, is believed to be their longest ever. The encore alone carried on for 15 songs. The group played variety of hits (“All My Life,” “The Pretender,” This Is a Call,” “My Hero”) and covers (“Breakdown” by Tom Petty, “Jet” by Wings).
“Tonight we play as long as we want and as much as we want,” Grohl said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s an open bar right?”
“Can we do whatever the fuck we want to do?” he asked, according to a review in Creative Loafing Charlotte.
