The Foo Fighters’ forthcoming eighth studio album was recorded in eight studios around the United States and it just so happens to be the eighth day of the eighth month of the year. So, today was as good a time as any to premiere the first eight seconds of the new album, which Dave Grohl said will contain “things we’ve never done before.”

On Aug. 5, the Foo Fighters’ official Facebook page announced, “Keep an eye out here for some big news coming on Monday,” so a full album announcement could arrive Aug. 11.

On July 30, producer Butch Vig tweeted that the new Foos album was “officially done” after 23 days of mixing.
The so-far untitled LP will coincide with the Oct. 17 premiere of the HBO series Sonic Highways, which documents the band recording the album in eight studios across eight different American cities. In a May 31 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Grohl previewed the new album, describing how it was inspired by these locations and how they fit into the history of American music.
“It’s only eight songs but I think it might be our longest record because, as I was writing these songs, I had to take a cinematic approach,” Grohl said.
The new LP will drop via RCA, in conjunction with the band’s own Roswell imprint. It follows 2011’s Wasting Light, the Foo Fighters’ last studio album.
