Foo Fighters’ eighth studio album will be released in November through Roswell/RCA, according to a press release. The as-yet-untitled effort will follow 2011’s “Wasting Light,” which was nominated for album of the year at the Grammy Awards.
The first snippet of new Foo Fighters music can be heard in the teaser trailer to the upcoming HBO documentary series “Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways.” The clip premiered on HBO over the weekend, during the TV airing of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
“I’ve pulled up the family tree of American music and exposed its roots to find inspiration for the next Foo Fighters album,” says frontman Dave Grohl in a statement. According to a press release, each song on the upcoming album was recorded in a different city — New York, New Orleans, Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles and more were visited — while “local legends” sitting in with the band for each track. Grohl also did not write lyrics to any of the songs until the last day of each session, letting the unique experiences inspire the words.

“Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways,” which follows Grohl’s directorial debut “Sound City,” will chronicle the band’s hopscotching recording process and will premiere this fall on HBO. As of now, the only upcoming tour date the Foos have is the headlining slot at Delaware’s Firefly Music Festival on June 20.
“After making ‘Sound City,’ I realized that the pairing of music and documentary works well because the stories give substance and depth to the song, which makes for a stronger emotional connection,” Grohl told Billboard about “Sonic Highways” last month. “So I thought, ‘I want to do this again, but instead of just walking into a studio and telling its story, I want to travel across America and tell its story.'”
