Florence & the Machine is contributing an exclusive song to the upcoming videogame Dragon Age II. The track is a re-imagined version of “I’m Not Calling You a Liar” produced by composer Inon Zur and retitled “I’m Not Calling You a Liar (Dragon Age II: Varric’s Theme).
It’s an interesting choice, as the game is not exactly set in modern times. It’s a sword-and-sorcery role playing game set in the fictional land of Amaranthine with, like, dragons and stuff. The new track strips the vocals from the acoustic track and layers it over a full orchestral background created by Zur.
In a press release, Steve Schnur — worldwide executive of music and marketing for the game’s publisher, Electronic Arts — had this to say:
“What was originally a powerfully stark, acoustic-based song has been reborn with all-new instrumentation and full orchestration. The results are an epic anthem for the next stage of the Dragon Age legend.”
It’s not the first time the Dragon Age franchise has reached out to modern acts for musical inspiration. The first installment-Dragon Age: Origins-used the track “This is War” from 30 Seconds to Mars.
The soundtrack will be available on iTunes upon the March 8 release (a pre-order is available now).
