For nearly 20 years, Fedde Le Grand has stood tall as a master of the dance music game. It takes a lot of skill and mean grit to make it this long, and his latest single “Skank” has all that and a nasty rhythm.
There’s a summer vibe to it, thanks in large part to a vocal sample from Jah Screechy’s 1984 hit “Walk and Skank.” Le Grand brings in hints of its original reggae riffs and backs the mood with energetic drums. It’s equal parts dubby and clubby, but when the hook hits, the lights go off and the breakbeat bumps heavy.
“Skank” is out now on Darklight Recordings. Listen to it below.
