Selena Gomez’s Selenators have a tough battle ahead of them against 30 Seconds to Mars’ Echelon. The Echleon is almost 20 years in the making, since 30 Seconds to Mars’ formation in 1998, but with a Disney background and Billboard Hot 100 hits under her, will Gomez’s Selenators prevail in this week’s round of Billboard’s Fan Army Face-Off?
Rock band 30 Seconds to Mars first formed as a product of brother duo Shannon Leto (on drums) and now-Oscar winner Jared Leto (the lead singer). Their debut self-titled album in 2002 brought the single “Echelon” to the forefront, and their fan army adopted the title as a name. The band’s second studio album, A Beautiful Lie, charted at No. 36 on the Billboard 200 and brought the rockers increased fame. The Echelon really expanded with 2009’s album This Is War and their highest-charting album Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams in 2013. Although Jared Leto teased a future fifth studio album, since parting with Virgin Records in 2014, the Echelon has remained loyal by becoming a philanthropic group, contributing to the band’s endeavors with causes like Habitat for Humanity.
Selena Gomez Fan on Being a Selenator: ‘She Is Far Different From Any Ordinary Celebrity’
Selena Gomez began her career as a child actress alongside Demi Lovato on Barney and Friends. Following her time with the purple dinosaur, Gomez appeared on Disney’s The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and Hannah Montana (with Miley Cyrus) until gaining a lead role on Wizards of Waverly Place. Her role as Alex Russo marked the start of Gomez’s millions of Selenators. Crossing over into music in 2009, Gomez formed the band Selena Gomez & The Scene. Their debut album Kiss & Tell peaked at No. 9. The band also released A Year Without Rain (2009) and When the Sun Goes Down (2011). Gomez went solo with 2013’s No. 1 album Stars Dance, which was followed by For You (2014) and her latest album Revival (2016). Selenators are currently following the star along her 2016 Revival tour.
