J-pop singer <a href=”/music/exile-atsushi”>ATSUSHI</a> caught up with <a href=”/music/bruno-mars”>Bruno Mars</a> while he was in Japan for the <a href=”/articles/columns/chart-beat/8356825/bruno-mars-24k-magic-tour-earnings”>24K Magic World Tour</a> to present him with the cover version of his hit solo debut single.
The EXILE vocalist released a Japanese-language cover of Mars’ No. 1 single “Just the Way You Are” on April 11, coinciding with the first day of Mars’ run of shows in Japan. Aside from his own rendition of the song in Spanish, the song has never officially been covered in a foreign language before.
The Japanese singer, who has also sold out the same arena that Mars performed in, had first met the American star in December 2017, shortly before he swept up six Grammys, including three in the major categories this year. ATSUSHI congratulated the multiple Grammy winner on his spectacular achievement and thanked him again for giving permission to cover the track when visiting him backstage before the start of the first Japan show.
ATSUSHI’s smooth rendition of “Just the Way You Are” features his signature mellow, high-pitched vocals singing the heartfelt love song mostly in Japanese. The “Finesse” singer noted that the CD jacket was “cool” and seemed delighted to find out about the cover’s positive reception by the Japanese fans.
Bruno Mars performed four sold-out arena concerts and wrapped up the Japan leg of his 24K Magic World Tour on Sunday (April 15).
