Inductees into the Australian Record Industry Association’s Hall Of Fame will now have somewhere to show off their legacy.
Through an initiative between labels body ARIA and Melbourne’s Arts Centre, Australia’s all-time-great musicians will be feted at a dedicated free exhibition held in the gallery from Nov. 8 through to the Australia Day weekend on Jan. 26.
Memorabilia from hall of famers’ careers will feature, as will such items as live photos, posters and gold records, awards and instruments.
“We’re very excited with this opportunity to expand the ARIA Hall of Fame experience to even more music fans with the launch of the Arts Centre exhibition,” comments Ed St John, ARIA chairman and president/CEO of Warner Music Australasia. “We expect many fans across the generations to come to the Arts Centre to delve into the careers of these musicians.”
Plans for the exhibition were announced earlier this year, ahead of the latest round of Hall Of Fame inductees. The latest ceremony took place October, with the likes of alt-rock act The Triffids, veteran performer and broadcaster Rolf Harris, New Zealand-formed rock band Dragon and Melbourne-based singer songwriter Russell Morris earning their place in the Hall Of Fame.
In other news, long-time screen composing collaborators Garry McDonald and Lawrence Stone will jointly-receive the international achievement award this Monday (Nov. 3) night at the APRA-AGSC Screen Music Awards in Sydney.
The duo have a long list of credits to their names, including Australian film and TV works “Robbery Under Arms,” “The Flying Doctors” and “Ocean Girl”, and scores for U.S. movies and TV series and mini-series such as “Sahara,” “The Thorn Birds – The Missing Years,” “The Lost World” and Francis Ford Coppola’s “Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde.”
The annual gala is jointly organized by the Australasian Performing Right Association and the Australian Guild Of Screen Composers, and will be held at City Recital Hall.
