A management restructuring at U.K. independent retail chain Music Zone sees founder Russ Grainger take over the new role of chairman. He is handing his former managing director role to financial controller Steve Oliver.
Grainger launched the company in 1984 as a single-store operation in Stockport, England. It now has 46 outlets.
Music Zone has named Peter Smith to replace Oliver as financial controller. He joins from a similar position at a U.K. meat wholesaler.
Oliver will have responsibility for day-to-day operations of the chain, but Grainger will continue to oversee its expansion program. The music/DVD merchant plans to open another eight stores in the U.K. during 2004.
“To maximize our position in the marketplace, we require a senior management board that is highly focused, immensely knowledgeable and able to take advantage of all positive opportunities,” says Grainger.
He says the new structure enables the company to “cover these prerequisites in abundance.”
