It’s been a good year for Ultra Music, and now fans will have a chance to relive it.
The Sony-affiliated record label today announced the release of Ultra Dance 16, exclusively revealing to Billboard its flagship dance compilation series’ latest installment. The two-disc and 24-track collection will be released on Feb. 24, marking the North American dance imprint’s 20th anniversary.
Provided exclusively to Billboard, the compilation’s final track listing includes such marquee mainstays as Calvin Harris, David Guetta and Hardwell, as well as hit-making newcomers like Kygo, Robin Schulz and Oliver Heldens.
Compilations have long been a boon for Ultra, which helped make its name with a number of VA release series in the early 2000s. Last year’s Ultra Dance 15 compilation has sold nearly 25,000 copies to date, with 61 percent drawn from physical sales.
“Ultra Records started heavily in the compilation business,” says Patrick Moxey, president of electronic music at Sony Music and founder of Ultra Music. “Pre-Internet when it was hard to find dance singles, Ultra compilations gave a beautiful face to the great music we broke in the clubs. Ultra was excited to do the very first dance mix compilations on iTunes with Ultra iDance and Ultra iTrance. Now we love having the dance compilation business in the digital world and hope everyone enjoys Ultra Dance 16.”
