Former Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan drummer Jimmy Chamberlin will release his debut solo album early next year under the moniker the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex. The 11-track “Life Begins Again” is due Jan. 25 via Sanctuary. Chamberlin is backed on the album by multi-instrumentalist Billy Mohler, guitarist Sean Woolstnhulme and pianist Adam Benjamin.
“Once the bass and drums were done, you could kind of hear the songs finished,” Chamberlin says. “It was just a matter of waiting for God to drop the guitar player or piano player in your lap.”
As expected, Chamberlin’s Pumpkins/Zwan colleague Billy Corgan appears on the track “Lokicat.” Other guests include former Catherine Wheel vocalist Rob Dickinson on “Love Is Real” and “Life Begins Again” and, in a highly unusual pairing, the Righteous Brothers’ Bill Medley on “Lullabye to Children.”
“For me, everything is kind of cyclical,” Chamberlin says. “If you look at nature, the universe, everything is kind of a circle. In anybody’s life, they can kind of point to where it starts again, and starts again and starts again. I think ‘Life Begins Again’ is just the start of another cycle for me musically.”
Chamberlin plans to tour next year in support of the album, but no dates have yet been confirmed.
