Alvaro Rizo, former president of EMI Music Colombia, has launched his own label, Insight A&R.
Founded as a partnership with Juan Pablo Mier, former director of marketing for EMI Music Colombia, Insight will also function as a publishing company, booking and management company. Its first album, by debut act Macoto, is slated for release in late summer. As part of its business model, Insight has signed Macoto to both label and management deals. The company has also signed rock group Estados Alterados for management.
Insight is currently negotiating distribution for its releases and is also negotiating a deal to represent a major independent publishing company in Colombia. Rizo says the company will work with similarly-operated companies in other Latin American countries.
“Rather than a crisis, we see a tremendous amount of talent at all levels,” says Rizo. “What is dead is the old way of operating.”
