As tipped here last week, veteran synth-pop duo Erasure has lined up a five-week spring North American tour. The outing will come in support of the group’s new album, “Nightbird,” due Jan. 25 via Mute. It will kick off April 14 with a five-night stand at New York’s Irving Plaza.
The tour will also play multiple nights at Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club, Los Angeles’ Avalon and San Francisco’s Independent before closing May 27 in Las Vegas. Beforehand, Erasure will play more than a month’s worth of dates in Europe, beginning Feb. 24 in Belfast.
The upcoming dates will be Erasure’s first since principal member Andy Bell revealed he has been HIV-positive for more than six years. To prepare for the workload, Bell, who says he has never felt better, had two surgeries this year to reduce extreme pain in his hips.
“I’m now bionic and ready to go,” he told Billboard in a recent interview. “During the last tour, I was in so much pain. I was in a pre-surgery state. My hips had deteriorated a lot. By the end of the tour, I was hardly moving around on the stage. Now, with my new hips, I feel revitalized. I am so ready for our upcoming tour.”
