Leading indie digital retailer eMusic has appointed Madeleine Milne as managing director, Europe.
Milne, who was the company’s GM, joined eMusic in 2006 and took charge of the launch of the pan-European service in September that year.
Milne, who takes up her appointment with immediate effect, will have overall responsibility for the development and marketing of eMusic’s business in Europe. She will also be responsible for developing partnerships with mobile network operators, hardware manufacturers, ISPs, retailers and media companies. eMusic is set to offer customized digital music incentives for these partners’ customers.
The company, which is based in New York and has an office in London, has also recruited James Wheatley as director of business development, Europe. He joined from Muze Europe where he was director of business development for Europe, responsible for licensing their range of music and film databases to the online market.
“Their marketing skills and industry knowledge coupled with strong management experience and drive will contribute to our growth in Europe where we expect to continue to be one of the largest and most successful digital entertainment retailers,” says eMusic CEO David Pakman in a statement.
The appointments were announced today as the company revealed that it has now sold more than 200 million downloads since launching its subscription model in November 2003. The total includes downloads in the U.S. And Europe, where eMusic has been available in all 27 E.U. Nations since 2006.
eMusic says it is now selling seven million tracks a month and has more than 400,000 subscribers across the U.S. and Europe.
