Empire of the Sun has released the video for “Alive,” a three-and-a-half-minute clip which finds the Australian electro-pop act in an all-out fantasy-mode.
In “Alive,” the pair of Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore embark on a sci-fi romp through various stunning locations, from dramatic desert landscapes, beneath towering trees and on the edge of the ocean. The outfits are over-the-top, and not all the characters in the video are positively human.
If the clip were to be held against “We Are the People” from 2009, the style is from the same wardrobe, but the narrative is on a different planet.
The “Alive” clip is the latest in a growing list of teasers for the duo’s upcoming sophomore set “Ice on the Dune,” which follows their debut by five years. The group has kept its fans entertained — perhaps frustrated — with a novel market campaign which has included a perplexing trailer, a motion poster, online puzzles and near-indecipherable messages from their support team. The audio for “Alive” was leaked in mid-April.
“Ice on the Dune” is set for a June 14 release. It was recorded in sessions around the globe by Steele and Littlemore together with Peter Mayes and Donnie Sloan, the production team behind their debut album, “Walking On A Dream.”
The act has a busy live itinerary in support of the album. Empire of the Sun’s live duties this year include commitments to the Jay-Z-curated Made In America festival, the Wilderness fest in London, Electric Daisy Carnival in New York, Chicago, Las Vegas & the Sziget Festival in Budapest, Sydney’s Vivid and the Splendour in the Grass festival in Byron Bay.
