The estranged wife of Grammy-winning rapper Eminem was arrested in Harrison Township, Mich., after deputies found her following reports of a personal-watercraft accident. Macomb County sheriff’s deputies saw 26-year-old Kimberly Anne Mathers of Clinton Township and her friend, 22-year-old Jennifer Freeman of Warren, walking along Jefferson Avenue in their bathing suits on Sunday afternoon.
Sheriff Mark Hackel said several people living near a canal called police because they thought the women had been in an accident. That’s when deputies found the women walking along the street, carrying life jackets.
“We could tell they had been drinking,” Hackel told the Detroit Free Press. “They said their personal watercraft had had some mechanical trouble.” After the women got into a patrol car, a deputy found they were both wanted on outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions.
Warren police wanted Mathers, whose husband’s real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, for failing to appear in court for a hearing on a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace. She posted $3,000 bond and was released pending a hearing tomorrow (July 11). Freeman was wanted by Huntington Woods police for a probation violation. Deputies released her when Huntington Woods police said they wouldn’t go to Macomb County to get her.
After the women were taken to the Macomb County Jail, a deputy found a small container of a white powder in the back seat of his car, Hackel said. The suspected cocaine was sent to the Michigan State Police Crime Laboratory, and the matter remains under investigation, he said.Copyright 2001 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
