EMI Music Continental Europe has signed Paul Oakenfold to a long-term recording agreement for the world outside North America, the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The pact, unveiled today (Aug. 10), covers the British DJ and dance music producer’s own recordings and gives EMI the option to pick up artists and music released through his own independent label Perfecto Records. Oakenfold’s recordings are released through Maverick in North America and Perfecto in the United Kingdom and Ireland; Pinnacle distributes in the latter territories.
Oakenfold is currently working on his new solo artist album due for release next year, according to EMI. The as-yet-untitled set will include the track “Feed Your Mind,” which was recently picked up for an international Toyota campaign which is backed by a €9 million ($11 million) advertising budget. The track is due for release this October.
The forthcoming album is the follow up to 2002’s “Bunkka” which won the best album award at the DanceStar USA Awards the following year.
“We’re very excited about teaming up with EMI as they are a business focused exclusively on music that gives time to developing and breaking quality music, whatever its genre or origin,” comments Marc Marot, managing director of Terra Artist Management, the London-based firm which represents Oakenfold.
Since launching Perfecto in 1990, Oakenfold has signed and released music from artists and producers including Timo Maas, Arthur Baker, PPK and Planet Perfecto.
