EMI Music Marketing will celebrate the work of Al Green, Glen Campbell and Nat King Cole with four-disc box sets to be issued over the next two months through EMI-associated labels.
The 75-track Green set, titled “The Immortal Soul of Al Green,” arrives first. Due Sept. 16 on the Right Stuff label, the set is a chronological history of the material he recorded for the Hi Records label (1967-1978). Each cut has been 24-bit remastered from the original analog tapes.
Beginning with “Back Up Train” and ending with “Starting All Over Again,” “Immortal” includes hits (“Let’s Stay Together,” “I’m Still in Love With You”), B-sides and covers (the Doors’ “Light My Fire,” the Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”). Also included are extensive liner notes by Colin Escott, as well as comments from Bill Ellis and Amy Linden.
“Glen Campbell: Legacy 1961-2002” will be released Sept. 30 on the Capitol Nashville imprint. The first three discs of the 80-track collection comprise a chronological history of Campbell’s country and pop hits culled from every studio album he has recorded. The first disc begins with the singer’s debut single on the Crest label, 1961’s “Turn Around Look at Me,” and the third disc concludes with “Somebody Like That” from the 1993 album of the same name.
The fourth Campbell disc is a collection of live material that spans 1969 to 2002 and includes “Amazing Grace” and a medley of the Beach Boys tracks “Good Vibrations, “Help Me Rhonda,” “Surfer Girl” and “Surfin’ USA.” “Legacy” includes liner notes by Joel Selvin.
The Nat King Cole retrospective, dubbed “The Singles Collection,” will be released Oct. 7 on Capitol Records, and will include 100 songs. The set contains every single released by the singer during his recording career.
