EMI Music has struck a long-term agreement to license and distribute Buddhist Punk-signed urban act Mattafix.
Under the terms of the deal — unveiled today (Aug. 16) — EMI Music Continental Europe has an exclusive international license for Mattafix, with sales and distribution rights in the United Kingdom.
“There’s a shared creative and independent spirit between EMI and Buddhist Punk that makes this partnership so ideal, comments EMI Music Continental Europe chairman/CEO Jean-Francois Cecillon. “We’re looking forward to working with Mattafix and the label to build on the buzz surrounding the band, and ensure that this great music reaches the audience it deserves.”
Mattafix — which comprises Marlon Roudette and Preetesh Hirji — are completing their debut album “Signs Of A Struggle” for a fall release. It will mark the first Buddhist Punk album release since former London Records executives Alfie Hollingsworth and Tracy Bennett established the label last year.
The first song from the album, “Big City Life,” opened this week at No. 15 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart.
