EMI Music U.K. has struck an agreement which allows gamers in Britain to download its music videos to PlayStation Portable players.
EMI becomes the first music major to reach terms with London-based digital solutions agency HiFi Entertainment, publishers of the PSP online platform www.psp-playlist.com.
Through the pact, unveiled today (Nov. 23), all music promos from EMI’s library will be available to download onto devices via the site. Prices range from £1.89 ($3.61) – £2.19 ($4.19) per video.
Bela Molnar, managing director of HiFi Entertainment, says EPKs and long-format videos of EMI acts will also be made available, some on a worldwide basis.
“There’s a massive gap in the market for PSP content. And these users are content-hungry,” Molnar tells Billboard.biz. “We knew that the PSP market is huge, but it needed a different platform to provide content to the users. We believe that psp-playlist.com will provide the new way of communication with the PSP users.”
In a statement, Graeme Rogan, commercial manager of digital media at EMI Music U.K., says, “We are looking forward to working with psp-playlist.com to give our artists maximum exposure via the untapped PSP platform.”
To date, 1.5 million PSP portable players are registered in the United Kingdom, according to HiFi Entertainment. An estimated 20 million consoles have been sold worldwide.
