Elton John shocked tube riders on Thursday when he sat down at one of the pianos open to the public in London’s St. Pancras station and gave passersby a treat that they certainly weren’t expecting on their commutes home.
Many witnesses caught the music legend on camera as he tickled the ivories through a few songs and then signed the Yamaha piano, which he had actually donated to the station himself, with the inscription, “Enjoy this piano! It’s a gift. Love, Elton John.”
The Daily Mail reports that during a radio appearance with BBC Radio 2 on Wednesday, John announced he’s going to start pulling back on his music career over the next several years to focus more on his family.
“It’s all about the kids now. Everything is worked out around half term and when they’re going to be in school, when they’re out of school, and they are the most important things in my life. They take preference over everything,” he said, adding, “I’ll gradually phase things out in a few years.”
