Elton John‘s a “Rocket Man” in a Barbie world. Mattel released a special edition Elton John Barbie doll Thursday (Oct. 22) to commemorate the 45th anniversary of his two sold-out shows at LA’s Dodger Stadium.
The blonde, curly-haired doll wears a colorful zip-up bomber jacket with “Elton” embossed in cursive across the chest, flare jeans embellished with his “EJ” initials at the bottom, rainbow-striped platform boots and a purple bowler hat. The jacket also has silver star-printed blue sleeves and a rainbow band on the neck, waist and wrists. And just like the musical icon often does, she’s rocking sparkling pink sunglasses.
“Barbie is an icon in her own right, so having her pay tribute to my work and personal style is a real honor,” John said in a statement. “I hope that she inspires fans everywhere to fearlessly pursue their own dreams and limitless potential.”
The Barbie doll arrives as John marks the 45th anniversary of his historic back-to-back sold-out shows at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium Oct. 25 and 26, 1975. The concerts went down in history as the two largest shows by a single artist at the time with more than 100,000 concertgoers in attendance, according to John’s website. The five-time Grammy winner was the first musical act to perform at the L.A. venue since The Beatles nine years earlier.
