Jamaican sensation Elephant Man will release his fourth album, “Good 2 Go,” Sept. 23 through VP Records. The set, which will feature the single “Pon De River, Pon De Bank,” is the artist’s first for New York-based reggae label. The album will feature high-profile guest appearances by Lil’ Jon, Bonecrusher, Jimmy Cozier and Killah Priest.
A huge hit in Jamaica, “Pon De River, Pon De Bank” is finding an audience in America in the wake of reggae-influenced songs that have started to flood hip-hop radio. The single is at No. 53 in its 10th week on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks tally, and has spent the last two weeks at No. 98 on the Hot 100.
A video for the single was recently filmed at New York’s Club Float, and will be sent for consideration to music video television stations in early August.
Elephant Man has released three albums for independent label Greensleeves, begining with 2000’s “Comin’ 4 You.” The following year brought “Log On,” while “Higher Level” was released in 2002. The three albums have sold about 47,000 units in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. His new home, VP Records, has recently released successful albums from Sean Paul and Wayne Wonder.
Elephant Man is scheduled to collaborate on upcoming projects with Mariah Carey, Da Brat, Lil’ Jon and Juelz Santana, according to a statement. Lil’ Jon makes an appearance on the “Good 2 Go” track “Jook Gyal,” which also features Bonecrusher.
