U.K. rock act Elbow will release its third album, “Leaders of the Free World,” Sept. 5 in its home territory via V2. The 11-track set is the follow-up to 2004’s “Cast of Thousands,” which debuted at No. 7 on the U.K. album chart and No. 8 on Billboard’s Heatseekers tally.
First single “Forget Myself” will be released Aug. 29 in the United Kingdom on two separate CD singles and 7-inch vinyl, backed by three non-album tracks and a cover of Indigo Jones’ “My Finger.”
In the United Kingdom, initial versions of the album will be complimented by a DVD with music videos for each of its 11 songs. According to Elbow’s Web site, “the films were developed alongside the album recording process rather than commissioned” after the fact. The visuals were supplied by the Soup Collective.
Having played only a handful of times since last September, Elbow will return to concert duty with Aug. 26-27 appearances at the Carling Weekend festival in Reading and Leeds, England. The group will also play sold-out headlining shows Sept. 6 in London and Sept. 8 in Manchester.
Although a limited run of the album will be available in North America in late September, V2 is planning a full-scale release here early next year, to coincide with an Elbow tour.
