As the Eden Project, Dublin-based musician EDEN experimented with both easygoing alternative music and pulse-driving, drop-filled dubstep. Now, after dropping two-thirds of his moniker, EDEN has a clearer brand of electronic sounds buoyed by guitars.
On his latest single “drugs,” EDEN doesn’t hold back: “I’m a f—ing mess sometimes,” EDEN admits over a throbbing beat, “but still I could always be whatever you wanted.”
“drugs” is the cleverly named second track on his upcoming EP, i think you think too much of me, following the rollicking “sex” and preceding — you guessed it — “and” and “rock and roll.” But there’s a secret depth to his sound that’s belied by the simplistic titles. “With each song, I try to make something that is just honest about how I feel and think — both lyrically and musically,” he says. “I’d like to make something artistically important but also personally important to me that I can stand by forever. So when I’m writing the music I can really express what I need to, whether that’s sad, shallow, or anything else — but knowing that its only part of a bigger puzzle allows me to have another side to the meaning completely. It still amazes that people connect with it and care enough to seek that out.”
