An autopsy conducted by the Clark County Coroner has ruled the cause of death of 34-year-old EDC Las Vegas attendee Michael Morse as acute MDMA and TFMPP toxicity, with environmental heat exposure as a second significant factor. TFMPP, or Trifluoromethylphenylpiperazine, is often sold as an MDMA alternative.
Billboard Dance has reached out to Insomniac Events for official comment.
Morse was the only reported fatality at the dance music festival’s 2017 edition, which drew over 400,000 attendees over three days. According to authorities, 1,000 people sought medical treatment during the festival.
Drug-related deaths have always been a concern for the festival. Intoxication and heat exposure have contributed to at least six deaths since the festival moved to Las Vegas in 2011. In July of this year, a father filed a lawsuit against Insomniac and Live Nation for wrongful death and negligence, two years after his son passed away at the Vegas festival in 2015.
