Ed Sheeran‘s 2017 smash hit “Shape Of You” has officially reached Diamond status. For a song to be certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), it must reach sales (and streaming equivalent sales) of 10 million units.
The milestone marks the second time the pop star attained Diamond certification, with “Thinking Out Loud” reaching 10 million units in 2017. As a result, Sheeran is only the fourth artist to score multiple Diamond certified songs since the RIAA first implemented the Diamond certification 20 years ago.
Sheeran took to Instagram on Thursday morning (Jan. 24) to share the news, writing, “My song Shape Of You is now diamond in the US! Thanks to everyone who’s downloaded or streamed it x.”
“Shape Of You” broke the record for the most time spent in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The song’s 12 weeks at No. 1 continued into 33 weeks in the top 10.
Fresh off the Diamond certification, the pop star announced the launch of his new acoustic guitar collection, Sheeran by Lowden, ahead of the annual National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Conference. Additionally, he is continuing his worldwide stadium tour later this month.
