Ed Sheeran has ended his year-long break from social media. Though he’s not in a particularly chatty mood.
The British singer-songwriter updated his Twitter and Instagram accounts for the first time in 12 months with a single cryptic post: a blue image.

Sheeran announced a pause from social media back in December 2015, though he lessened the pain of disappointment with the promise of new music. “To my family and friends, if you love me you will understand me buggering off for a bit, to my fans, the 3rd album is on its way and is the best thing I have made thus far. See you all next autumn, and thank you for being amazing,” he wrote at the time.
The “Thinking Out Loud” singer stayed well out of the spotlight for most of 2016, but he did emerge last month for an appearance at the East Anglian Children’s Hospice gala. Sheeran also penned X Factor U.K. champ Matt Terry’s track When Christmas Comes Around, which should challenge for this week’s U.K. singles chart crown.
Songwriter Amy Wadge collaborated with Sheeran on his new album. She tells the BBC the LP is “done” and it’ll be out “really soon,” though she didn’t give out any specifics.
With a return to Twitter and Instagram, is Sheeran all set to share news on the followup to 2014’s x? Or is he just feeling kinda blue? Whatever, the lines of communication are now open.
