Ed Sheeran rang the royal doorbell to raise awareness for a “charity” that hits close to home for both him and Prince Harry–but the Duke of Sussex had a different cause in mind.
In a sweet video recognizing World Mental Health Day on Thursday (Oct. 10), Sheeran prepares for his big day with the royal by getting his beard trimmed. “Really excited today,” he expresses. “I’m going to go and film a thing with Prince Harry. He contacted me about doing a charity video with him, which, you know, is going to be good. I’ve long admired him from afar.”
Upon meeting, Harry expresses his gratitude for the team up, and they both agree the subject at hand is something they’re “quite passionate about.”
“This for me is a subject and a conversation that’s just not talked about enough. I think people all over the world are really suffering,” Harry notes.
Sheeran explains that he’s been trying to write a song about the subject, adding, “People just don’t understand what it’s like for people like us.”
The Duke suddenly appears confused, and asks for clarification. The crooner then reveals, “You know, with the jokes and the snide comments, I just feel like it’s time we stood up and said, ‘We’re not going to take this anymore. We are ginger and we’re going to fight.'”
Prince Harry then explains that the video is for World Mental Health Day, and Sheeran quickly erases his prepared Powerpoint presentation that aims to “change the persception of people with Moroccan sunset hair.”
The caption for the clip takes a more serious note on the subject, adding a number of resources for those who suffer with mental illness. “There’s no need to suffer in silence – share how you’re feeling, ask how someone is doing and listen for the answer. Be willing to ask for help when you need it and know that we are all in this together.”
