The final season of Cougar Town, a show that is 100 percent still on the air in the year 2015, premiered on Tuesday night (Jan. 13), and apparently contained a snippet of a new Ed Sheeran track, as well as its standard collection of various Courtney Cox zingers! Listen to a pulled-from-TV clip of the untitled track below:
Sheeran had tweeted earlier on Tuesday that a “brand new never before heard song of mine” was going to premiere on the TBS comedy, and Cox also confirmed the news later that day. Apparently the folk-pop superstar and the Friends alum are pretty great pals: according to an old Sheeran post on Instagram, the actress let him live in her beach house last year!
My friend Courteney is nominated for a People Choice Award for favourite cable tv actress. She’s never won one before and she lets me live in her beach house, so how’s about we all vote for her and win her the damn thang eh? Safe. Vote here please kind people – http://www.peopleschoice.com/pca/vote/votenow.jsp
The new track, presumably a castoff from Sheeran’s x sessions, sounds like a bittersweet throwback to the tender folk of his debut album, +. “We will drive until these tires wear out/ And we will write all our memories down/ And we will cry until this fire is drowned/ Well, darling, I, I will keep you warm,” he sings on the song.
Speaking of x, Sheeran’s first No. 1 album in the U.S. is nominated for album of the year at this year’s Grammy Awards. The former best new artist nominee will perform at the Grammys ceremony, to be held on Feb. 8.
