The Aftershock benefit concert, set for Sunday (July 29) at the Compaq Center in San Jose, Calif., has been canceled due to lack of corporate sponsorship, according to organizers. The event was set to feature performances from Luther Vandross, Lauryn Hill, Marc Anthony, Anoushka Shankar, and former members of the Eagles and Steely Dan.
Proceeds from the concert were intended to benefit earthquake victims in El Salvador and India. Event organizer Mickey Shapiro told Billboard last month that the Aftershock Aid Foundation’s goal was to raise $5 million.
Quincy Jones, Clive Davis, and MTV Networks chairman/CEO Tom Freston were among the industry heavyweights who lent their names in support of the concert.
