Elton John’s 60th birthday concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden on March 25 is heading to DVD. “Elton 60: Live at Madison Square Garden” will arrive Oct. 2 via Rocket/UMe. The 33-song show is featured on the first disc, while a second disc rounds up nearly 30 more rare and archival performances.
The MSG show balances John’s giant hits (“Levon,” “Rocket Man,” “Bennie and the Jets,” “Tiny Dancer,” “I’m Still Standing”) with a host of more obscure album tracks (“Hercules,” “The Bridge,” “All the Girls Love Alice,” “Take Me to the Pilot”).
The second DVD disc begins with John’s earliest known TV performance on Swiss television in 1970 (“Border Song”) and also features appearances on “Top of the Pops,” “Royal Variety Show” and “The Old Grey Whistle Test.” Concert clips are included from Edinburgh (1976), London’s Wembley Stadium (1984) and earlier Madison Square Garden shows (1995, 2005).
The ever-busy John has a full slate of fall shows on tap, including an Oct. 16-Nov. 5 run with his Red Piano show at Las Vegas’ Caesars Palace. He will also play several solo dates in Japan, Australia and New Zealand later this year.
