
Duncan Cooper has been named editor-in-chief of The Fader magazine and Robert Semmer its creative director of video, according to the publication. Both Cooper and Semmer will report directly to Fader president and publisher Andy Cohn, as well as co-founders Jon Cohen and Rob Stone.
Cooper, who was previously executive editor, joined The Fader in 2011. He’s written cover stories on Zayn Malik, Lana Del Rey and Kacey Musgraves. He holds a master’s degree in Media Studies from The New School and has released three EPs under the moniker Wildarms.
Semmer joined The Fader as a senior producer in 2015. His work on Mykki Blanco’s music video “High School Never Ends” received awards at 2016’s Ciclope Festival and the Cameraimage Film Festival as well as a Cannes Lions Award nomination. Semmer previously worked for Vice.
The Fader was launched in 1999 by Cohen and Stone and is known for its coverage of up and coming musicians across music genres.
Cooper succeeds Naomi Zeichner, who was formerly Buzzfeed’s music editor and became the EIC in Sept. 2014 after Matthew Schnipper. She recently headed to YouTube.
