Former RBD member Dulce María has signed a solo recording deal with Universal Music Latin Entertainment. Her first album is slated for release in 2010.
Dulce María, who signed her new deal at Universal Music Mexico’s offices June 16, most recently recorded a duet version of “Beautiful” with Akon, which was included in the Mexican edition of Akon’s album “Freedom.”
Originally a child actress and later a member of Mexican teen group Jeans, Dulce María came to prominence as one of the six members of RBD, the group spawned from the soap opera “Rebelde.” RBD went on to sell 2 million albums in the U.S. alone, according to Nielsen SoundScan, before disbanding earlier this year. Thanks to “Rebelde,” RBD’s popularity went beyond Mexico and the U.S. and the group successfully toured worldwide and recorded in English and Portuguese.
“After her great international success with her previous group, it’s a pleasure and a great responsibility to have been chosen by Dulce Maria as her partner in her solo career,” said Jesus Lopez, chairman of Universal Music Latin America/Iberian Peninsula.
“She’s demonstrated to have great international potential,” added Victor Gonzalez, president of Universal Music Mexico.
Aside from singing and dancing, Dulce María had also begun to write and a handful of her songs were recorded by RBD.
