Despite a strong impact on the new U.K. sales charts by the stars of last week’s BRIT Awards, Duffy’s “Mercy” (A&M/Universal) earned a second week atop the singles list yesterday (Feb. 24), and the Feeling’s sophomore set “Join With Us” (Universal Island) debuted at No. 1 on the album chart.
The Feeling withstood renewed sales by Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson to take the album honors. Ronson, named Best British Male at the BRITs, rocketed 22-4 with his album “Version” (Columbia). Winehouse’s rendition with him of “Valerie,” from that album, sent the single back 22-13, and all of her album releases enjoyed an upswing from that and her BRITS performance of “Love Is a Losing Game.”
The deluxe edition of “Back to Black,” from which the latter track came from, raced 14-3 and the regular edition 16-12, while Winehouse’s first album, “Frank,” also improved 32-27.
Mika, who also played and won at last week’s event, jumped 9-5 with “Life in Cartoon Motion” (Universal Island). Last week’s best-selling album, Jack Johnson’s “Sleep Through the Static” (Brushfire/Island), fell sharply to No. 8, as Jonathan Ansell’s “Tenor at the Movies” (UCJ) gave him a first top 10 appearance at No. 9.
Duffy’s single stayed on top despite a 7-2 climb by “What’s It Gonna Be” (Ministry of Sound) by H “Two” O featuring Platnum. Another BRITS performer, Kylie Minogue, jumped 18-5 with “Wow” (Parlophone) in its 10th chart week, as the parent album “X” moved 38-24.
OneRepublic’s “Stop and Stare” (Interscope) climbed 11-9 and another Interscope single, “Scream” by Timbaland featuring Keri Hilson and Nicole Scherzinger, improved 28-20.
Michael Jackson’s augmented 25th anniversary reissue of “Thriller” (Legacy/Epic) enters in pole position on Billboard’s European Top 100 Albums chart. On Eurochart Hot 100 Singles, “Apologize” (Mosley/Blackground/Interscope) by Timbaland presents OneRepublic starts a 14th week at No. 1.
