Dua Lipa‘s management company TaP Music announced on Thursday (Oct. 3) its plans to raise £100k and awareness of mental health charities My Black Dog, a peer-to-peer online mental health charity and CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).
“It’s painfully ironic that music has such power to make us happy but musicians themselves can often suffer disproportionately from mental health issues,” Lipa said in a press statement. “I have benefitted so much from this industry but I see around me every day what others can suffer: the fear of failure, loneliness and the intense pressures of social media, which I think is especially the case for female artists. It’s time for the music industry to start taking the mental health of artists seriously.”
The fundraising effort comes followings devastating stories among TaP’s team members about shared experience of losing friends and family to suicide. TaP will begin their charitable efforts with a 24-hour cycle ride from London to Paris on Oct. 4. Next week, they’ll host a football tournament featuring numerous record labels and industry figureheads including CAA, WME, Live Nation, Paradigm, UTA, Primary, Warner Records, Parlophone, Universal Records, Sony Records, Sony ATV, Universal Publishing, Warner Chappell, Professor Green, Bray & Krais and HSBC.
