Legendary studio drummer Kenneth Aaron (Kenny) Buttrey died Sunday (Sept. 12) of cancer at his home in Nashville. He was 59 years old.
Buttrey played drums on albums for artists including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Elvis Presley, Simon & Garfunkel and Jimmy Buffett.
Among the classic albums that featured Buttrey’s drums were Dylan’s “Nashville Skyline” and “Blonde on Blonde,” Young’s “Harvest” and Buffett’s “Margaritaville.” Buttrey was also a member of the popular early 1970s Southern rock group Barefoot Jerry and the band’s predecessor, Area Code 615.
Buttrey is survived by his wife Cheri and their two daughters, Kenzie and Keri. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Crawford Mortuary and Crematory.
