Jason Mraz, Something Corporate, James Blunt, Steel Train, the Format and former Catatonia vocalist Cerys Matthews are among the artists that have recorded tracks for “Listen to Bob Dylan,” a double-disc tribute due Aug. 16 via Drive Thru Records.
“The goal of this CD is to introduce a newer, younger generation of listeners to Bob Dylan’s music through artists that they love, the same way I was introduced 16 years ago,” Drive Thru owner Stefanie Reines says.
Mraz tackles “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall,” while Something Corporate covers “Just Like a Woman” and Steel Train revamps “Don’t Think Twice (It’s Alright)” and “I Shall Be Released.” Other artists contributing to the project include Days Away, RX Bandits, Rock’n’Roll Soldiers, As Tall As Lions, I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody’s Business and Anberlin.
Meanwhile, Billboard.com has learned Doghouse Records is readying its own Dylan tribute, “Paupers, Peasants, Princes and Kings,” which will feature a reunion of former Chamberlain lead singer David Moore and guitarist Adam Rubenstein on the Dylan rarity “Abandoned Love.” Other tracks set for inclusion are “Lay Lady Lay” by Sparta frontman Jim Ward and Say Anything’s “The Man in Me.”
Due in late October or early November, the album will also boast the Honorary Title’s “Simple Twist of Fate” and a version of “All Along the Watchtower” by rapper P.O.S.
Additionally, “Paupers” will feature as-yet-unconfirmed tracks from such artists as Limbeck, Read Yellow, Apollo Sunshine and Panama Jerk, a side project of Blood Brothers guitarist Cody Votolato and Give Up The Ghost vocalist Wes Eisold.
