Dr. John and Jean Knight have been added to the bill of this year’s seventh annual Ponderosa Stomp Music Conference, set for April 29-30 at the House of Blues and the Parish in New Orleans. The artists will perform alongside Wardell Quezergue and His Rhythm and Blues Revue.
Dr. John, billed under his real name (Mac Rebennack), is expected to perform a guitar set of his early music, while the Quezergue Revue will be joined by soul acts Tammy Lyn and Tony Owen.
Also performing at the blues/roots festival are Ronnie Spector, Nathaniel Mayer, Mary Weiss, William Bell, Roky Erickson, Question Mark and the Mysterians, the Collins Kids, the Green Fuz and Syl Johnson, among others.
Music writers and historians like Peter Guralnick, Holly George Warren, Andria Lisle and Jim O’Neal, plus musical artists, will also be delivering talks throughout the conference.

In related news, this year’s South by Southwest festival will host a Stomp showcase at Austin, Texas’ Continental Club on March 14. Artists scheduled to appear include Little Freddie King, Kenny and the Kasuals, Barbara Lynn, Ralph Soul Jackson and others.
The 2008 Jazzfest in New Orleans will also feature a Stomp showcase on April 26. Tammy Lynn, Archie Bell, Roy Head and Dennis Binder are among those who will perform.
