It’s 2019, Kanye West still loves Donald Trump and the feelings are mutual.
The president used the platform of the first cabinet meeting of the year to give a shout-out to the hip-hop star, according to journalists in the room.
The power-gathering went on for more than an-hour-and-a-half, with ABC News reporters describing the session as “rambling” as the president covered a wide range of topics, including incoming Utah Sen. Mitt Romney’s critical Washington Post op-ed, Syria and ‘Ye.
One of those watching on was CNBC political correspondent Ylan Q. Mui, who says Trump praised Kanye as a “smart, good guy”.
The odd couple have openly shared their admiration for one another in recent months. On New Year’s Day, West let his Twitter followers know where his allegiance lies. “Trump all day,” he wrote. West also pledged to wear his MAGA hat for future performances. “One of my favorite of many things about what the Trump hat represents to me is that people can’t tell me what to do because I’m black,” he tweeted.
Last April, Kanye reactivated his Twitter account and got busy firing out streams of messages, including one memorable tweet in which he called Trump his “brother” and remarked they both had “dragon energy.”
