Atlanta fans were equally excited and terrified while watching the Emmy Awards when they saw a peculiar face sitting in Donald Glover’s seat. Someone dressed up as the FX show’s creepiest character, Teddy Perkins, though it’s not confirmed who it could be.
The initial assumption was Glover, who played Perkins in the show. However, minutes later, the actor was seen back in his seat, raising doubts on how quick a makeup job like that would take. Fans soon theorized that Perkins could be Lakeith Stanfield, who was also in attendance at the show.
Perkins appears in a season two episode of the same name as a Michael Jackson-inspired music icon who Stanfield’s character, Darius, meets at his mansion to take away a piano. Perkins soon discloses a disturbing tale of his and his brother’s abusive relationship with their father and the scene soon becomes even more stomach-churning when Darius finds out a dark secret about the mansion. The character was soon revealed to be Glover in whiteface.
The “Teddy Perkins” episode was nominated for three Emmys this year, including outstanding directing, outstanding editing for a comedy and outstanding cinematography for a comedy. See Perkins’ award show appearance below.
