Add another entry to this summer’s national tour schedule: the 2014 Masters of Ceremony Hip-Hop Reunion. Featuring a master class of hip-hop artists—including DMX, Naughty By Nature, Rakim and Biz Markie—the tour kicks off July 11 at Miami’s American Airlines Arena.
Das EFX, Big Daddy Kane, Special Ed, EPMD and Black Sheep round out the tour lineup. The summer trek was sparked by the success of the first Masters of Ceremony concert on Jan. 24 at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. The sold-out show featured several of the summer tour’s headliners (including DMX, Naughty By Nature, EPMD) as well as Slick Rick and Brand Nubian.
Adam Torres Concerts and The Commission Presents are the producers behind the Masters of Ceremony tour. Noting that 60 percent of the Jan. 24 ticket buyers were over 30 and 40 percent were under 25, Torres says positive response to the January show showed “there was a desire to hear artists from what is frequently referred to as the Golden Age of Hip-Hop. Hence came the idea to feed that hunger and reconnect with both longtime and new fans across the U.S.”
Adds Parrish Smith of EPMD, “The Radio City Music Hall concert was an incredible hip-hop reunion that took you back to the true essence of hip-hop.”
After its Miami kickoff, the 2014 Masters of Ceremony Hip-Hop Reunion will stop in Orlando (July 12), Los Angeles (July 18), Oakland, Calif. (July 19) and Atlanta (July 26). Additional dates will be announced soon.
