The FCC just voted to repeal Net Neutrality laws, which opens the door for Internet Service Providers to create a tiered system of data usage. Opponents fear this will mean internet packages similar to cable television, where you choose the websites and streaming services you’d like to use for a flat fee. Maybe one day, you’ll hit your streaming data wall on your computer, much like your phone, and find your Netflix, or even this website, doesn’t load quite as fast as it did a moment ago.
It’s a horrifying prospect for artists that make a living in the digital age. How many songs can a DJ download before he hits his streaming wall? What happens to online publications who already compete for your attention and advertiser money? What happens to artists who are just getting their start?
Some of the biggest names in dance music and the surrounding community are very unhappy. Here are their comments.
I feel equally as baffled today, as I’m reading that Net Neutrality is being repealed, as I was when Trump got elected President. I just absolutely can’t imagine anyone voting for that…… then I realize, I am living in a bubble of like-minded, progressive-thinking people —

Fuck you FCC. The idea of a tiered internet makes me feel like we’re all staying at one big fucking Ramada Inn. #NetNeutality

A handful of people just decided that 380 million of us don’t need to decide what we have full access to on the internet. Such bullshit. Be pissed. #NetNeutrality

Restricting the internet limits access to knowledge, innovation and growth for this generation and the next.
So disappointed about #NetNeutraility
